Acrylflow Acrylic Polyols Added to TSCA Inventory

Published on 2003-10-06. Author : SpecialChem

HOUSTON, October 6, 2003---Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE:LYO) has announced that its ACRYFLOW(tm) acrylic polyols are now all listed on the US Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substance Inventory. At the same time, the company announced that the five polyols in the ACRYFLOW family are now available in commercial quantities.

According to Market Development Manager Joel Heilman, "We've seen strong initial market acceptance of these polyols and the systematic approach to formulation they make possible. The TSCA listing and full commercialization are important milestones in our efforts to supply the healthy demand we anticipate."

Designed to work together in a system called the Resin Management Concept(tm) (RMc), ACRYFLOW acrylic polyols give formulators the flexibility they need to create a multitude of products with only five resins (P90, P120, M100, A90 and A140), rather than dozens. In contrast to using conventional polyols--each typically designed to meet a specific need--formulators can blend together the ACRYFLOW polyols in various combinations to achieve a broad array of properties.

ACRYFLOW polyols are prepared in a proprietary process using hydroxyfunctional allylic monomers. Unlike conventional acrylics, ACRYFLOW polyols maintain their functionality at low molecular weight and contain zero non-functional polymers. This unique chemistry results in improved chemical and abrasion resistance, pot life, through cure, appearance and weatherability all at lower VOCs. Finally, ACRYFLOW acrylic polyols require less isocyanate crosslinker which leads to lower costs.
