Munich/Essen -- Munich-based Wacker-Chemie GmbH is selling its ADDID® surface coating additives business to Oligomers & Silicones, a Degussa AG business unit. An agreement to this effect was jointly announced by the two companies. The agreement calls for Tego Coating & Ink Additives - an Essen-based business line of Oligomers & Silicones - to assume exclusive worldwide brand and distribution rights to the successful silicone additives for coatings and printing inks, effective October 1. These products are to be marketed under the Tego ADDID® brand name. All product names will remain the same and customers will continue to be supplied in the accustomed product quality and with unchanged specifications. The two companies agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

ADDID® additives are silicone-based coating and printing ink additives. They control surface properties and produce hammer tone effects in coating systems, improve adhesion for a variety of coatings and prevent unwanted foaming during production and application of coatings and printing inks. ADDID® silicone additives are compatible with numerous paint and printing ink systems, and are economical to use thanks to their high efficiency. The main application areas are automotive and general industrial coatings, printing inks, protective wood coatings, packaging and aluminum can coatings.

The agreement will extend market opportunities for the successful ADDID® silicone additive range. WACKER SILICONES President Dr. Klaus Höfelmann said: "We are pleased to have found a competent partner for our customers in Degussa's Tego Coating & Ink Additives business line. Tego's global market presence will further enhance customer proximity."

Dr. Dietmar Schaefer, head of Degussa's Tego Coating & Ink Additives business line: "WACKER's ADDID® product line represents an ideal addition to our product portfolio for the coatings and printing ink industry. In terms of technology, we are expanding our opportunities to develop customized, innovative solutions," Dr. Schaefer said. "In addition to our Essen laboratories, we have several service labs in the world's major industrial regions. Tego Coating & Ink Additives offers innovative technologies combined with responsive service and effective collaboration."
