In line with its strategy of expansion and of strengthening the coatings and surface technologies of its Chemical Sector, UCB has bought the company, Bom Woo at Kumi in Korea. This company manufactures polyurethane resins for textile coatings; it employs 30 people and its annual turnover is €11 million.

This decision confirms the desire of the Sector to develop its position as leading supplier of resins for high performance coatings through organic growth based on innovation and through acquisitions. The acquisition of Bom Woo is one step in line with this strategy.

The Chemical Sector benefits from a European leadership in the field of these polyurethane resins and wishes to strengthen its position by establishing a base in Asia, the continent which represents the most important part of the world market.

This type of polyurethane resin is mainly used for textile coatings. UCB has developed the trademark Breathe there, a microporous resin for breathable textiles and Ucecoat for other textile coatings including artificial leather. This acquisition will accelerate the penetration of the Asian market. UCB's annual turnover for these resins is of the order of €30 million.
