Surcharge on Uralac™ polyester resins replaced by smaller price increase for North America

Published on 2005-12-01. Author : SpecialChem

Zwolle,The Netherlands -- DSM Coating Resins' Gerben Algra, Global Business Manager Polyesters, announced that the $0.10/lb surcharge on all Uralac™ polyester powder coating resins marketed in North America that was announced in September will expire as of December 31, 2005. DSM will replace this surcharge with a smaller price increase as of January 1, 2006. The amount of the price increase will be $0.07/lb.

Algra adds, "The immediate and substantial price increases on several key raw materials used to manufacture Polyester Coating Resins as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have subsided only slightly and, in some cases, continue to move higher. It is apparent that most of these raw material price increases are structural in nature and will remain in place well into the New Year. While DSM is pleased to be in a position to share the result of these raw material prices moving off of their peaks with customers, a price increase (as compared to pre-Katrina prices) must be put into effect to recover the impact from the structural portion of these raw material price increases and to remain a reliable resin supplier into the future."
