Cincinnati, OH -- Sun Chemical Performance Pigments announced that it has formed a new Advanced Technology Group that will focus more resources on innovative product development.

"This development increases our commitment to innovation and fundamental science," said Dr. Cynthia Arnold, Sun Chemical's chief technology officer, who added that the new team will augment research and development already underway in Sun Chemical's core research laboratories of St. Mary Cray, UK, and Carlstadt, NJ. "We are investing more heavily in the development of new products that build on our core capabilities and open up opportunities for our current customers and new customers as well," she stated.

Dr. Philippe Schottland is the manager of the Advanced Technology Group. In this role, Philippe will focus his team on three key areas: special effect pigments, next generation security, and conductive systems. Russell Schwartz, vice president of Colors Technology, said "While we are already involved in developing materials solutions in these areas, the formation of this group increases and focuses our committed resources. Philippe is extraordinarily qualified to lead this group. Not only is he a world class scientist, but he has extensive experience in the commercialization of novel products and intellectual property management."

Dr. Schottland has been issued 12 patents, with 19 additional patents pending in the field of color technology. His work has been published in numerous scientific journals. He earned a PhD in Materials Chemistry from the University Paris XIII and a graduate degree in Polymer Chemistry from the University Paris VI. The Advanced Technology Group will be located predominantly in Cincinnati, Ohio but will have members at other Sun Chemical sites. The group will work in conjunction with Dainippon Ink and Chemicals, Sun Chemical's parent company, for conductive systems.
