Shalimar Signs Technical Collaboration Agreement with KCI, Korea

Published on 2005-11-07. Author : SpecialChem

Shalimar Paints Limited (SPL), one of the leading paint companies of India, has signed a technical collaboration agreement with Kunsul Chemical Industries Company Limited (KCI), Korea, for pre-coated metal coatings.

KCI is one of the largest manufacturers of PCM coatings in Korea. Under the collaboration agreement KCI will be giving the technical knowhow to SPL for various PCM products – both for architectural structures and appliances.

SPL is planning to set up the PCM coating plant in its Nasik factory based on the knowhow to be provided by KCI and will be manufacturing both architectural and appliance grade PCM coatings.

The market for coil coatings in India has grown considerably in the last two years. This is mainly because the construction and the appliance industries are preferring to now use pre coated sheets in order to enhance productivity and be more cost effective.

With the increase in global demand most of the existing manufacturers are going in for capacity expansion and several major steel manufacturers are having plans for setting up coil coating lines. The present installed capacity is 570000 MT which is expected to almost double in the next three years with the additional lines coming up. There would thus be substantial increase in demand for PCM coatings and the market is expected to grow at about 30% annually over the next two-three years.

It is expected that SPL with technical knowhow from KCI will be able to capture a substantial share of the PCM coatings market on account of superior technology and cost effectiveness.
