MILWAUKEE-- Dürr AG, one of the world's leading suppliers of turnkey production systems and manufacturing support services for the automotive industry, has recognized the collaborative efforts of Rockwell Automation and Dürr's Paint Systems business unit by awarding the team its prestigious 2003 Heinz Dürr Innovation Award in the Supplier Collaboration category.

The award recognizes the team for successful development of a global standardized control platform using the Rockwell Automation® Integrated Architecture solution. This standardized approach enables Dürr to offer greater production efficiency for automotive manufacturers across multiple locations. The award also recognizes the team for successfully combining technologies and capabilities from both companies to win new business from a major automotive manufacturer. Implementing this integrated solution provides a foundation for the team to use with other global customers. Rockwell Automation is the first outside supplier to receive this award in the Supplier Collaboration category.

Established in 2001, the Heinz Dürr Innovation Awards acknowledge outstanding contributions made by Dürr employee teams in enhancing the company's competitive edge worldwide in the categories of Supplier Collaboration, Leading Edge Technologies, Customer Satisfaction, Crossdivisional Collaboration, and International Collaboration. The awards go to teams of employees who work together across national boundaries to find creative ways to provide innovative solutions that benefit customers.

The award recognized the Rockwell Automation and Dürr team's efforts in developing a standard solution utilizing the Allen-Bradley® ControlLogix® platform and Rockwell Software® Enterprise Control software in the paint shop manufacturing systems to decrease a manufacturer's time-to-market. It also acknowledged the close cooperation in the supply of plant-wide manufacturing execution systems (MES) that allows Dürr and Rockwell Automation to provide a competitive solution and extend their business globally into other manufacturing areas such as body shop, assembly shop and Powertrain applications. These solutions provide Dürr with an architecture it can use to gather and share data in a format that is easily accessible throughout the manufacturing enterprise.

"Our collaboration with Dürr demonstrates what two industry leaders can accomplish when they work together," said Mike Kluiber, global automotive industry senior vice president, Rockwell Automation. "We value our long-term relationship with Dürr and look forward to continuing our joint efforts as we continue to provide solutions that meet the cost-efficiency and time-to-market demands of our customers in the automotive industry."

"We proudly recognize the dedication of Rockwell Automation in working with Dürr employees to draw on global resources that generate competitive and financial benefits for our customers," said Dr. Reinhold Grau, head of the Dürr Paint Systems business unit and member of the Board of Management of Dürr AG. "The team's contributions in developing the common control platform and MES services will enable Dürr to offer a stronger solution and meet the challenges of managing a global manufacturing enterprise now and in the future."
