Rhodia Announces 3 Production Units for its Novecare's Specialty Surfactants & Polymers

ZHENJIANG, China -- Rhodia announced three new production units at its Zhenjiang site for its Novecare's specialty surfactants and polymers and Aroma Performance's Guaiacol and IBCH* products. The extended production capacities will enable Rhodia to meet the growing demand from local customers and will increase its service level in terms of delivery and response time. The new investment illustrates Rhodia's commitment to continuously growing its Asia-Pacific markets, striving to be the preferred partner for both local and global key customers.

An opening ceremony is held today in Zhenjiang, gathering officials from Zhenjiang government and Rhodia top management demonstrating the strategic importance of this industrial investment in the zone.

The development of the new facilities complies with the strictest environment and safety standards, achieving the safety record of zero accident for over 2.3 millions of hours worked. The most advanced production technologies applied in Zhenjiang will significantly reduce the waste water, salt production and air emissions, illustrating Rhodia's commitment to Sustainable Development in all countries where the company operates.

Rhodia's Novecare business is the largest international surfactant player in Asia. Rhodia's surfactant-based formulations are used in various applications: coating, tire, detergents, body wash and shampoo, agrochemicals and oilfield "After acquiring Jiangsu Feixiang Chemicals in 2010, the Asia-Pacific business represents now one third of Novecare's sales," commented Dr. Chen Pu, Vice President/General Manager Asia-Pacific, Rhodia Novecare. "China is definitely the most important country to drive our growth in this region. Having this new plant built complete our manufacturing footprint with our five plants in China and give us additional competitive advantages."

Rhodia Aroma Performance: a new state-of-the-art unit to answer Asian growing needs both in Guaiacol and IBCH production

Rhodia has successfully transferred its guaiacol production from Wuxi to Zhenjiang end 2010. With such investment, Rhodia Aroma Performance reinforces its vertical integration chain of diphenols and will better follow the growing demand on guaiacol.

"At the same time, we transferred our IBCH production, the best substitution to natural sandalwood oil that contributes to the prevention of over-exploitation of sandalwood resources," said Mr. Olivier Champault, Vice-President and Asia-Pacific General Manager, Rhodia Aroma Performance.

Under its brand name Rhodiantal™Original, the IBCH is indeed a key ingredient in the formulation of the "sandalwood" note for use in fine fragrances, home & personal care products, and incense products.
