Raymor Announces Major Expansion of Thermal Spray Coating Production Capacity

Published on 2006-11-17. Author : SpecialChem

MONTREAL -- Raymor Industries Inc. (TSX-V: RAR) , a leading developer and producer of single-walled carbon nanotubes, nanomaterials and advanced materials, announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, AP&C Advanced Powders and Coatings is currently expanding its thermal spray coating production capacity at its new facility in Boisbriand, Quebec to address growing market demand in the aerospace, power generation, and specialized industrial sectors. More specifically, the company will add two new workstations, one for Atmospheric Plasma Spraying (APS) and one for High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) spraying to its existing APS/HVOF booth, for a total of three APS/HVOF workstations. New infrastructure will also be put in place for a fourth APS/HVOF workstation. In addition, as the only commercial provider of Vacuum Plasma Spray (VPS) coating services in Canada, AP&C will install a second VPS production unit. This new unit will be specifically dedicated for the coating of orthopaedic implants and other biomedical components. All of these workstations will be installed by the end of this year.

Commenting on the news, Stéphane Robert, President and CEO of Raymor Industries had the following to say:

"Through the efforts of our sales and marketing professionals, we have identified real growth opportunities, particularly in the aerospace and power generation fields. This effort has led to the decision to more than double our current coating capacity. Knowing that there is a substantial and growing need in providing thermal spray coating services to the local aerospace community (Quebec, Ontario, US Northeast), and given our expertise and background in material and thermal processing, AP&C is positioning itself to capture significant market share in this industry. Also, with the new biomedical VPS workstation, we are entering a new market, an excellent example of how we leverage our experience and knowledge-base in thermal spraying with the business development synergies between our different operation divisions."

AP&C's Thermal Spray Coatings Division offers high quality metal and ceramic coatings and nanocoatings using thermal spraying for various applications in the aerospace, aeronautics, and military sectors, as well as other specialized industrial sectors such as turbines used for power generation. Specifically, AP&C offers HVOF, APS and VPS coating services, a metallurgical laboratory, and highly qualified personnel for both the production and development of new industrial coatings, including nanocoatings, to meet the requirements of our customer base.
