PPG PresentationPPG has announced that Susan Miller, PPG technical manager, industrial coatings, will present “The Next Generation of Chip- and Impact-Resistant Powder Coatings” at the Society of Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) WCX™ World Congress Experience in Detroit on April 9.

Patent-pending Technology

Miller’s presentation will highlight a patent-pending technology that PPG has developed using an ultra-low modulus/flexible particle modification in a powder coating. Coatings incorporating the technology protect high-tensile automotive coil springs from corrosion by resisting chipping and impact from road debris.

With images taken via scanning electron microscopy, Miller will compare how the new coatings perform in relation to conventional powder coatings used for the same application. She also will highlight performance results using industry-standard tests for impact resistance and cyclic corrosion.

Miller will conclude her presentation by comparing the application properties of the new and incumbent coating technologies, including a review of first-pass transfer rates and film-build efficiencies.

Details of the Presentation

Miller’s presentation will begin at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9. It is part of an all-day technical session titled “Advances in Coatings,” in Room 140G at the Cobo Center.

Presented by SAE International, WCX attracts thousands of engineers, executives, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers and decision-makers encompassing the entire spectrum of the mobility-engineering field. The event includes three days of expert-led technical education, peer-to-peer networking, a technology-driven exhibit floor and an expansive array of global mobility solutions.
