Fighting off competition from over 100 entries from Business Units across AkzoNobel, the Powder Coatings China project, which looked at developing an eco efficient solution for the Chinese Architectural Market, has won first prize.

The entry concentrated on the eco benefits of powder coatings and how they could assist a struggling economy in a sustainable way. Focusing on the fact that little was known about the eco efficiency of powder, the project aimed to educate the end user on Coatings standards and the sustainable nature of the powder coatings, engineering product to meet the "Green" standard, providing a "One Team" approach to deliver fastest response time, and offering a product + service package to close the deal.

The project achieved great success with over 45 projects secured and an 8% increase in architectural sales realised. What's more, the project has also contributed to raising the coatings standards of the entire industry in China. "This is a fantastic achievement for our architectural team in China and the whole of BU Powder Coatings. My congratulations and thanks go to the entire team" said Rob Molenaar, Managing Director BU Powder Coatings. "This project had it all - focusing on our customer's future, entrepreneurial thinking, using the talents of people...it really embodied the AkzoNobel values in every way."

A worthy winner, the jury was particularly impressed by the Powder Coatings China entry and felt it really reflected what we mean by delivering Tomorrow's Answers Today. The jury consisted of five people. CEO Hans Wijers and CFO Keith Nichols were joined by Frank Sherman, Managing Director of the Surface Chemistry business; Conrad Keijzer, currently Managing Director of Packaging Coatings; and Ruud Joosten, Managing Director of Decorative Paints Northern & Eastern Europe.

The Powder Coatings architectural team working on the entry included:

China Architectural Marketing Manager: Chris Liu

China Architectural Marketing Team: Eric Geng, Jacky Li, Aaron Liu, Tim Xiang, Jackie Li, Rock, Li

Customer Technical Service Manager: Greg Liang

Center of Expertise: Julie Wang, Martin Qian, Yin Haitao

The physical award for the overall winner is a glass sculpture, made by Dutch glass artist Winnie Teschmacher. This award will be presented to the winner(s) by the CEO personally.
