Opening of SigmaKalon Research & Development Center Asia in Kunshan

SigmaKalon has opened its new R&D Center in Kunshan, China. This state of the art R&D center will service SigmaKalon's Marine and Protective coatings business in Northern Asia.

Representing an investment of over 8 million RMB (1 million US$) on construction and equipment. The center employs 28 highly qualified professional chemists. It has state of the art equipment which can reproduce the harshest conditions in Marine and Petrochemical environments.

The center was officially opened by the Party Secretary of Kunshan and the Consul General of the Netherlands in Shanghai. Over 200 customers, including representatives of the Chinese Marine and Petrochemical industries will attend the event.

Commenting on the opening of this R&D Center, Dirk Philips, General Manager of SigmaKalon's Marine and Protective Coatings business mentioned, "With the opening of the new R&D center, the Kunshan facility is truly geared up to meet the challenging demands of the Asian coatings market".

SigmaKalon has been active in the Chinese market since 1990 and has expanded rapidly ever since. In 1998 a dedicated Protective and Marine coating manufacturing plant was opened in Kunshan. Only 6 months ago a 2nd expansion to this plant was commissioned, upgrading its capacity to 35,000 tons making this facility one of China's largest paint production plants.
