Nerolac takes home The ‘Golden Peacock’ Award

MUMBAI, India -- Goodlass Nerolac Paints Limited (GNPL), the country's second largest Paint Company received the Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for its Jainpur plant (Kanpur) in a glittering ceremony in 7th World Congress on Environment Management held at Palampur (Himachal Pradesh) from June 10-12, 2005.

Mr. Pravin D. Chaudhari, Director-Supply Chain, GNPL received the award from the hands of Dr. Ola Ullsten - former Prime Minister of Sweden, Dr. S.Z. Qasim - former Member Planning Commission, Justice Venkatchaliah - Former Chief Justice of India, Mr. Shanta Kumar - Former CM of HP, Dr. Madhav Mehra, President-World Environment Foundation, U.K & Mr. Pradip Chaturvedi, Advisor FAO & VC, WEF.

GOLDEN PEACOCK ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT AWARD (GPEMA) is designed to encourage and recognize effective implementation of environment management system, and continual improvement. The Golden Peacock Environment Management award is the coveted and prestigious recognition that emphasizes on maintaining ecological balance by minimizing adverse environmental impact, while carrying out industrial and business activities and aim towards sustainable growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pravin D. Chaudhari, Director-Supply Chain, GNPL said, "It was a proud moment & overwhelming when the name of GNPL was announced as a winner in a huge gathering and galaxy of eminent personalities from Government, NGOs, and Public & Private undertakings. At a time when we are at the brink of environmental depletion, as the country's second largest Paint Company, we feel responsible towards the society."

Mr. H. M. Bharuka, Managing Director, GNPL speaking on the occasion emphasized, "The preservation of our natural resources in an efficient manner is for all of us to strive for and we at Nerolac believe in that too. Our objective has always been to utilize our natural resources in an efficient manner. We encourage continual and targeted improvements to prevent waste generation at source, reduce, recover, recycle wastes and reduce and prevent pollution of air, water and land. This esteemed award only strengthens our pledge towards Environment management and preservation."

World Environment Foundation 7th congress was held for three days with the inaugural address on June 10th by Dr. Ola Ullsten and Guest of Honour, Mrs. Vidya Stokes - Minister of PP & Power, HP. The programme continued with special addresses by national & international speakers. Second day was devoted mainly for keynote sessions on governance for sustainable development, hazardous waste management and water management. A case study on Rain Water Harvesting presented by Mr. Satish Deshmukh of GNPL was well received by the participants. Mr. M.K. Sinha of GNPL Jainpur too added the developments in EMS at Jainpur plant. The programme was then followed by the award giving ceremony and cultural programme.
