Houston, TX -- NACE International, the leader in corrosion control technology, has announced the 4th International Marine Coatings Summit in the maritime city of Busan, South Korea. Leaders in the marine industry, maritime organizations, and international societies will attend the summit scheduled for October 30-31, 2008 at The Westin Chosun Busan.

As a result of the IMO ballast tank coating standard (MSC.215(82)) implemented two years ago, NACE International is hosting this annual summit for the commercial shipbuilding industry as a way to exchange information on new technologies and practices that comply with this standard. MSC.215(82) requires commercial shipbuilders and owners to maintain ballast tank coatings onboard ships in service.

The 4th International Marine Coatings Summit provides an open forum for ship owners, ship builders, site managers, naval architects, regulatory agencies, and marine coatings suppliers and manufacturers to discuss the new technologies and challenges facing the industry. The technical sessions covered in the two-day event include:

  • Regulatory Updates for International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
  • MSC.215(82) IMO PSPC from an Inspection Point of View
  • Hull Coatings and Efficiency
  • Ballast Water Treatment Technology
  • CO2 Emissions
  • Two-year Review of PSPC-What is your wish for changes?

"Last year's Marine Coating Summit in Shanghai was a great and historical success for NACE International as the first international activity in the Far East. More than 70% of the commercial ships are being built in this region, and it is vital for industry leaders to collaborate and share knowledge on state of the art technologies," said Mr. Toyoji Takeuchi, Section Career Development Chairman for the NACE Tokyo-Japan Section.

Supporting the 4th International Marine Coatings Summit through a non-financial co-sponsorship is The Korea Coating Experts Society. Advance registration, with the respective discounted rate, is available through September 29, 2008. After October 6, 2008 registration will only be available on-site.

NACE International is a professional association dedicated to promoting public safety, protecting the environment, and reducing the economic impact of corrosion. Established in 1943, NACE International has more than 20,000 members worldwide and offers technical training and certification programs, sponsors conferences and produces industry standards, reports, publications, and software.
