Acryl-melamine curing system had been the primary material conventionally used for automobile top coats. Since the 1990s, however, automakers have increasingly adopted acid-epoxy curing system for the top coats, which uses GMA as a raw material due to its resistance to acid rain and scratch. Demand for automobile top coating is expected to grow as the number of automobiles produced worldwide increases.

MGC has expanded its GMA operations at the Niigata Plant since 1979. The applications of GMA extend beyond automobile coatings to modifiers for engineering plastics, adhesives, coating materials and more, for which MGC's GMA has been highly commended. MGC is now responding to the expected increase of demand by boosting production capacity
