Merszei Assumes Role of CFO at Dow

Midland, MI -- The Dow Chemical Company has confirmed the appointment of Geoffery E. Merszei as Chief Financial Officer, effective October 1 2005. He succeeds J. Pedro Reinhard, marking the successful completion of the scheduled three month transition period, announced by the Company last April.

Merszei, who first joined Dow in 1977, returned to the Company as Executive Vice President in July this year after serving four years as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Alcan Inc.

Prior to moving to Alcan, Merszei's career with Dow had spanned 24 years. He joined the Company from the Royal Bank of Canada in 1977 and subsequently worked in a variety of treasury and finance-related positions around the globe, including five years as Vice President and Treasurer.

Reinhard, who joined Dow in 1970, will continue as executive vice president of the Company, retaining his current responsibilities through year end in relation to Dow AgroSciences, Dow Latin America and other special projects. He will continue to serve as a member of The Dow Chemical Company Board of Directors.
