LANXESS at Interlakokraska 2009

Published on 2009-03-16. Author : SpecialChem

Interlakokraska 2009 and the concurrent Tires & Rubbers are the first trade show appearances by the specialty chemicals group LANXESS AG in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) since its Russian company OOO LANXESS was founded. "We place great importance on proximity to the customer. The new national headquarters in Moscow and the branch office opened in Kiev in early February will enhance our ability to serve the CIS", said Georges Barbey, General Director of OOO LANXESS.

The company has offered a comprehensive and modern portfolio for the coatings industry at Interlakokraska 2009, including inorganic pigments, organic and inorganic pigment preparations and biocide formulations use in wood protection, antifouling, in-can and film preservation applications. "We want to present ourselves to the industry as a capable and reliable partner. We hope to establish new trends with our products and services and stimulate the development of new products and processes", declared Barbey.

The Functional Chemicals business unit offers organic and inorganic pigment preparations. With Levanyl Gran and Levanox Gran, LANXESS now offers self-dispersing, solvent-free premium products for the coloration of paints and for use in a number of other specialty applications. The storage-stable microgranules can be used to formulate high-quality, concentrated pigment preparations. Because of their small and homogeneous particle size and high pigment content, they require only a low addition and small amounts of energy to develop their full tinting strength, gloss, transparency and intensity. The microgranules Levanyl Gran and Levanox Gran developed by LANXESS can be easily metered during processing without first undergoing time-consuming grinding. They are practically dust-free when handled, can be precisely metered and their good flow properties mean that containers can be emptied nearly completely. LANXESS also offers waterborne dispersions of organic and inorganic pigments for paints, coatings and wood varnishes. The formulations, which are free of solvents and nonylphenol ethoxylate, combine high performance with simple metering and mixing properties.

The Inorganic Pigments business unit is one of the world's leading manufacturers of iron and chrome oxide pigments. The color spectrum available with iron oxide includes earth tones from yellow and ochre to red and black. Both pastel shades and vivid colors can be created. LANXESS uses crystal engineering, among other methods, to extend the iron oxide color palette with high quality shades. Special yellow pigments from the high-performance Bayferrox line enable the formulation of low-viscosity pigment preparations as required by the pastes industry, for example. The Colortherm line of temperature-stable yellow pigments is available for use in coil coating or powder coating applications. These and special black and brown pigments from the Bayferrox range are also suitable for long-term, high-temperature use. The development of specialty pigments to meet a particularly high application profile is a strength of the Inorganic Pigments business unit.

The Material Protection Products business unit has been offering a comprehensive range of biocides and biocide formulations for paints, wood and antifouling coatings as well as in-can preservation applications for over 100 years. The products protect against fungi, mold and/or insects. Preventol A 5-F, for example, has proven effective for use in solventborne wood protection systems due to its high stability combined with low leaching tendency. LANXESS is continuously expanding its portfolio of biocide formulations for use in waterborne wood coatings. The new VOC-free Preventol C 20-D is a refinement of the IPBC-based Preventol MP line with a broader spectrum of activity and improved efficacy in wood protection applications. LANXESS offers the cobiocide Preventol A 5-S for use in antifouling coatings to protect ship hulls, for example. It exhibits outstanding efficacy against macroalgae, slime producers and other fouling organisms. This cobiocide also offers the advantage that it breaks down extremely quickly in sea water and does not accumulate in the environment.

LANXESS in-can preservatives prevent contamination with germs, in particular bacteria, fungi and yeasts, in liquid, waterborne products and offer a broad spectrum of microbicidal action. Preventol formulations that are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde are also available. LANXESS also offers dry-film preservatives, including VOC-free, waterborne dispersions based on e.g. zinc pyrithione, octyl-isothiazolinone and diuron with both fungicidal and algicidal action. They enable highly efficient film preservation allied to optimal exploitation of the respective labeling thresholds with respect to the active substances.

LANXESS is a leader in specialty chemicals with sales in 2007 of EUR 6.61 billion and currently around 15,000 employees in 21 countries. The company is represented at 44 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacture and sale of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
