Kemira Announces Price Increases for Titanium Dioxide Starting July 1, 2008

Published on 2008-06-18. Author : SpecialChem

Kemira Pigments will implement a surcharge and raise titanium dioxide (rutile and anatase) product prices, beginning July 1, 2008, to offset dramatic raw material and energy cost escalation.

Due to dramatic raw material and energy cost increases; including feedstock, sulfuric acid, propane and scrap iron, Kemira Pigments will from July 1 apply a 50 € per metric ton or USD 80 per metric ton material and energy surcharge on all Kemira sulfate products produced at its plant in Pori, Finland.

In addition to the material and energy surcharge Kemira Pigments also announces a price increase of 50 € per metric ton on all Kemira TiO2 products sold in Europe, Middle East and Africa, also effective on July 1, 2008.

Kemira Pigments will increase prices of all Kemira titanium dioxide pigments (rutile and anatase) sold in North America by USD 0.05 per pound, or CAD 0.05 per pound, effective from July 1, 2008. This increase is in addition to the energy surcharge.

Kemira Pigments will also increase the prices of all Kemira titanium dioxide pigments (rutile and anatase) sold in Latin America and in Asia & Pacific region with USD 150 per metric ton from July 1, 2008. This increase is in addition to the energy surcharge.

These price corrections are necessary to remedy the very difficult profitability challenges facing the titanium dioxide pigment industry today. Also it will help to ensure the continuation of a healthy and competitive TiO2 industry.
