Jotun to Coat Turbine House Steel Structure & 6 Sets of Boiler, Turbine & Generator for UMPP Project

Published on 2011-06-16. Author : SpecialChem

The project team consisting of Jotun India and Jotun China secured the Reliance Sasan 6 x 660 MW Ultra Mega Power (UMPP) Project, the first coal-based UMPP project in India.

In China, 90,000MT of turbine house steel structure will be coated with Jotun coatings, in addition to 6 sets of BTG (Boiler, Turbine and Generator) for which the supply of coatings has already started. This would be a good basis for chasing up on the remaining packages, and most of them would be purchased and fabricated in India.

This project is the latest one secured that illustrates the vital part in securing cross border projects: a functioning project team based on 3Cs (Communication, Commitment and Cooperation).

Clear project mapping at the initial stage will help not only in finding out our target customers of decision maker, influencer, and involvers in a project - according to this a project team within Jotun is set up, but also give a full picture of whole packages of the project - where maximum results to Jotun is possible by focusing on the key party, and securing one package in one country can be of support to the following up of other packages in another country.

A year ago, Jotun China Protective Management decided to set up a dedicated team to take care of international engineering companies and Chinese EPC companies active with cross border projects. Account responsible and LSM are two tools employed in developing customers into a higher BSH level.

Thanks to the support from Global and Regional, and cooperation from Jotun's sister companies, among them which are: Jotun Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Singapore and Philippines, U.A.E and Jotun Korea, a dozen cross border projects were secured in the past years and supplied by Jotun China including:

  • Australia Karara Mining project
  • Indonesia Tanjung Awar-Awar 2x350MW power plant project
  • Vietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer plant project
  • India Kamalaka 3x350MW power plant project
  • Philippines Mariveles 2x300 MW power plant project
  • U.A.E. Takreer Ruwais Refinery Expansion plant project
  • Brazil Arcelor Mittal Monlevade project.

In the years to come, cross border projects in Energy, Industry, HPI and Infrastructure are still seen to be fabricated in China, and Chinese companies are more and more active in winning EPC contracts for international projects. Keep moving in the right direction, enhance internal communication, and strengthen project team management with a corresponding performance review system; more success on cross border projects can be expected to bring about win-win and long term cooperation, both between Jotun companies and with Customers.
