In Dubai, Jotun Paints has opened its new Dh70 million ($19 million) plant in the Al Quoz Industrial Area. The plant is reported to have a capacity of 60 million litres annually.

The existing plant of Jotun in Rashidiya area will now stop to operate.

According to Erik Aaberg, managing director of Jotun UAE, the new investments go hand in hand with Dubai's planned development in the next few years. He said that the company see the new capacities as essentially required for the demand coming in from within the UAE itself. Also, the Al Quoz plant is planned in such a way that further capacities may be raised if the need arises in future.

The production at this facility will be divided into protective, decorative and marine paints.

Jotun operates a powder coating plant in Dubai and another paint factory in Abu Dhabi, apart from this facility.

In the Middle East region, Jotun has three facilities in Saudi Arabia and one each in Egypt and Oman, which collectively with the UAE capacities, increase the overall number to around 150 million litres annually.
