International® Showcased its Hull Coatings & Fouling Control Range at SMM 2012

This year's SMM took place at the Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH from 4th-7th September. Now in its 25th anniversary year, the shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology international trade fair was attended by over 50,000 trade visitors from across the globe, providing a valuable opportunity for International® to interact with shipowners, ship builders and suppliers.

Improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in shipping was a key focus at the event - it's also been International's core philosophy since 1881! International believes that hull coatings have always had a critical role to play in enhancing vessel efficiency.

International's extensive fouling control range promoted at SMM 2012 attracted a lot of interest, especially its renowned Intersleek® and Intersmooth®SPC brands. International has always invested heavily in technology and now with the widest choice of fouling control coatings available they are well placed to meet the changing needs of the marine industry and its customers.

The energy efficiency theme of hull coatings, fuel savings and emissions continued with Intersleek® Market Manager John Willsher, who joined the panel at the Marine Coatings Conference, organized in conjunction with SMM by the MPI Group. "Good debate was generated around a number of topics including the merits of the latest advances in SPC and foul release technologies and methods of measuring hull coating performance," said Willsher.

Mark Bos, Senior Naval Architect & Consultant in Vessel Performance for the BMT Group, was present on the International® stand and answered visitors' questions about the BMT SMARTSERVICES system. Thanks to the International® and BMT ARGOSS partnership, customers can now benefit from a completely transparent, independent and measurable reduction in energy use and CO2 emissions when using Intersmooth®SPC and Intersleek® fouling control products. Benjamin Imm, Sales Executive for International Paint Germany, added, "SMM was very well attended and the International® stand had visits from a number of major vessel operators and newbuilding yards. Officially, the exhibition closes at 6pm, and we had customers on our stand until 7:15pm, so I think that shows visitors' strong interest in the latest advances in coating technology. We look forward to the next SMM, scheduled for 9th-12th September 2014."
