Glasurit's EU Eastern Expansion

Well-Prepared: New Countries Expand the Market

Münster. When the ten applicant countries become full EU members on May 1, 2004, it will be a question of being well-prepared. This is because the "new members" will then belong to the EU Single Market. Exports Manager Arie Verboon is looking forward to the enlarged scope of the European Union: "Glasurit has already established a strong position in the new EU member states for about ten years."

In each of the new member states, a Glasurit importer, supported by the Exports department in Germany, provides for the comprehensive supply of bodyshops - and they have many different requirements. "The spectrum ranges from ultra-modern car dealerships that expect top quality and first-class service at a fair price to small bodyshops that are interested in buying as inexpensively as possible," says Verboon, describing the Eastern European market.

In this case, mainly the solvent-based coating systems have been sold in the applicant countries until now. The water-based technology, however, is gaining ground there and is in increasing demand since the VOC Directive will have to be implemented in the new EU member states as well. Glasurit is well-prepared for this eventuality and has already introduced the corresponding products there.

Even the know-how for processing water-based paints is already wide- spread in the applicant countries. "In the last few years, we have carried out intensive training again and again to make the switch easier for painters and management," says Verboon. "The RATIO-CONCEPT- plus program is already available in almost all of the new EU member states."

Glasurit Automotive Refinish

Under the Glasurit brand, BASF markets a comprehensive range of automotive refinishing paint systems, focusing on eco-efficient waterborne basecoats and high-solids paints. By using these systems all legal solvent-reduction requirements can be complied with anywhere in the world, and with regard to appearance and resistance, the products meet the same quality standards as solvent-borne paints. In this area, the company offers a wide variety of services to support its customers. Glasurit Automotive Refinish is approved by most of the leading car manufacturers for aftermarket repair worldwide and chosen by them for its color expertise.
