EPSCCA Announces General Price Increase for Acrylic Emulsions Sold in North America

Published on 2007-05-14. Author : SpecialChem

As a result of the rapid escalation of raw material costs, EPSCCA has elected to raise pricing of all acrylic emulsion products effective June 18, 2007 to reflect conditions in the market. All acrylic emulsions, will increase 3 cents per pound, styrenated acrylics, will increase 5 cents per pound and solution acrylics, will increase 7 cents per pound.

"Raw material prices ran at relatively stable levels in 2006. At the start of 2007, prices began to move incrementally higher and we have absorbed those increases. Recently, outages in refinery capacity in North America have caused raw material prices to surge. Benzene in particular spiked to a new all time high in April resulting in a rapid escalation of styrene pricing among other materials. Acrylic monomers have also increased as have most all solvent materials. We are hopeful that the markets will stabilize, however, based on the current scenario, we must increase prices to reflect the reality of the current situation.
