Encore® Manual Powder Spray System Saves Manufacturer $42,000 Annually in Material Costs

AMHERST, Ohio -- The Encore Manual Powder Spray System from Nordson is being used by manufacturers around the world for its unsurpassed operator control, coating efficiency and ease of use. The system is proving especially beneficial in job shop settings, where speed and versatility are the key to operating efficiency and cost savings.

Launched nearly one year ago, the revolutionary Encore system provides true closed-loop powder flow control. Featuring 20 programmable presets and on-gun controls, the system provides an unprecedented level of coating performance on demand. Along with the controls, Encore also incorporates an innovative all-digital operator interface on the gun, providing unprecedented control functionality and flexibility for optimum coating results with every part type and application challenge. In addition, ergonomically engineered to reduce fatigue, the Encore spray gun is the lightest and best-balanced gun on the market, making the painter's job easier.

The Encore Manual Powder Spray System has been popular with finishers worldwide since it was introduced. For one in particular, KLM Engineering in the United Kingdom, the Encore system provided the versatility they needed to spray any product and any color - all while increasing efficiency and saving significant costs.

KLM provides a flexible and highly competitive outsourced engineering, fabrication and painting service for a wide range of clients. After installing the Encore system, KLM documented immediate powder savings due to the superior transfer efficiency of the guns, and the painters who operate the guns found ease of use a bonus. The on-gun controls also increase coating speed, since fast program changes and the increased transfer efficiency allow the operator to reach difficult to coat corners effortlessly. Production was increased still further by reduced rejects and the ultra fast color change times of the gun.

"We can now spray longer without operator fatigue as the new guns are so light and easy to use. The ability to change the gun settings and spray programs actually on the gun is a feature that the guys really appreciate," explains David Axon from KLM Engineering.

Vital for KLM, though, is the powder savings they are achieving by using the new guns. The company forecasts that it will save $42,000 per year in reduced powder consumption, which will ultimately offset the investment in the system.

In addition to on-gun controls and digital operator interface, other innovative Encore system features include:

  • Nordson-exclusive auxiliary trigger for one-hand powder flow adjustment or preset selection
  • 100,000 volts of power
  • Unique auxiliary trigger, enabling operator to either increase or decrease powder flow on-the-fly or make preset program selection
  • Patented PowerPurge on-gun powder path cleaning
  • Large, brilliant-blue LED displays and helpful lighted icons
  • Highly intuitive parameter selection buttons
  • Fast-acting rotary knob for quick value adjustments
  • Nordson patented Select Charge® technology
  • Automatic Current Feedback (AFC) control
  • Low-velocity, high-efficiency pump
