EFKA Additives, a member of the Ciba group since 2001, has been named the most competitive and innovative organization in the Netherlands.

The Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) of the Erasmus University, the Netherlands, presented EFKA Additives with the prestigious "Erasmus Award 2005 for competitive and innovative organizations." This award singles out the Heerenveen-based producer of additives for the paint, imaging and inks, and plastics industries as the most competitive and innovative organization in the Netherlands.

Professor Henk Volberda hands over the Erasmus Award 2005 to Dr. Ir. Arend Noordam, Head of Technology at EFKA Additives, a member of the Ciba group.

Of an initial group of 9,000 Dutch organizations, nine were nominated for the Erasmus Award in 2005. The jury, comprising representatives of industry, academia, and the Dutch government, selected EFKA as the winner on the basis of research by RSM Erasmus University.

The jury commented, "In recent years, EFKA Additives has been capable of developing several advanced products and services. Moreover, the organization is characterized by a strong culture of entrepreneurship that creates space for change and innovation. Although there is a downward pressure on prices within the sector, EFKA Additives has been capable of building a leading position on the basis of innovative products and services. This has primarily been accomplished by means of a clear and unambiguous vision and strong cooperation with third parties."

Ciba® EFKA® additives include a novel class of dispersants based on controlled free radical polymerization, products that improve color incorporation in base paints, and wetting, defoaming, leveling and flow control agents.
