KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Eastman Chemical Company shares its expertise in renewably sourced, new cellulose ester additives at the ChinaCoat Congress in Shanghai. The presentation addressed formulators looking to meet Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) regulations.

Eunice Ho, Technical Service Representative at Eastman, presented the company's recently completed study, which demonstrates that cellulose ester additives can enable formulators to meet evolving VOC standards for both waterborne and solvent borne coating systems.

Entitled Leveraging Structure-Property Relationships to Develop Solutions for Compliant Coating Systems, Ho's presentation also discussed how performance and end-use aesthetics benefit from this approach.

Eastman's study is the 12th and final paper to be presented at this year's conference program: Automotive Finishes: Focusing on the Key Aspects of Durability & Ecology.

"VOC regulations continue to drive changes in coating formulations to waterborne technology or to higher solids in solvent borne systems. To help formulators meet these evolving standards, Eastman is developing effective, performance and productivity boosting additives" says study author Deepanjan Bhattacharya, Ph.D., Eastman's research associate in the specialty coatings development group.

Eastman Chemical Company is also launched its new Eastman Solus™ 2300 performance additive for high-solids systems and offer formulating expertise at ChinaCoat.

Eastman Solus™ 2300 is engineered to provide enhanced appearance and performance in high-solids systems while concurrently helping address today's stringent VOC regulations. By enabling improved dry-to-touch time and higher solids, Eastman Solus™ 2100 and Solus™ 2300 can also help boost throughput and productivity.

The Solus™ family of performance additives are being developed to meet global market demand for paints and coatings that deliver regulatory compliance with maximized performance. Derived from natural and renewable cellulose material, additional Solus™ products are under development for both waterborne and solvent borne systems.
