Published on 2006-05-18. Author : SpecialChem

Carlo Testa, Eastman Chemical Company's chemicals technology supervisor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will present Eastman Coalescents, Cellulose Esters, and Adhesion Promoters: Providing Solutions for the Coatings Industry, at Boya 2006 in Istanbul, Turkey. The presentation will be given at the Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Palace, Dolmabahce Hall A on May 18.

Eastman's comprehensive product portfolio, focusing on the company's coalescents, cellulose esters and adhesion promoters for use in conventional, high-solids, waterborne and powder coatings for the architectural, automotive, and industrial markets, will be featured in Testa's presentation.

The Eastman Coatings Film Technologies Portfolio of Coalescents has been designed to respond to regulatory directives, retail requirements and consumer preferences. In addition to Texanol Ester Alcohol, the industry standard for more than 40 years, Eastman's portfolio of coalescents includes Optifilm Enhancer 300, a low odour coalescent that, like Texanol EA, is not classified as a volatile organic according to the European Union Directive 2004/42/EC.

Eastman CMCAB cellulose ester, developed specifically for use in waterborne coatings, is a versatile formulation tool that controls flow and leveling while reducing sagging. Like Eastman's solventborne cellulose esters, it provides a number of performance benefits which include reduced dry time, reduced cratering, improved sprayability, reduced picture framing, redissolve resistance, metallic flake control, pigment dispersion, reduced blocking, solvent craze resistance and gloss control.

Testa's presentation will demonstrate the effectiveness of Eastman's water-based and solvent-based adhesion promoters and their success in improving paint adhesion to substrates such as polypropylene, polyethylene, thermoplastic polyolefins, certain metals and other plastic materials. Recognizing that such substrates can be difficult to coat, Testa will discuss how Eastman's adhesion promoters offer a value-adding solution to this problem.
