DuPont Titanium Technologies Announces a Price Increase for Titanium Dioxide Products in Latin America

Published on 2008-01-11. Author : SpecialChem

WILMINGTON, Del. -- DuPont Titanium Technologies (DTT) has announced a price increase for all DuPont titanium dioxide (TiO2) grades sold in Latin America. Effective Jan. 15, 2008, or as permitted by contract, prices for DuPont coatings, plastics, specialty, paper, and laminate titanium dioxide grades will increase $130 (US) per metric tonne in Latin America. This is in addition to the US$ 130 previously announced October 15, 2007.

According to DuPont Titanium Technologies, the modest increases realized to date still leave DuPont prices well below the levels required to offset both recent structural cost increases as well as ongoing cost increases. While DTT will continue to work to offset these increases in the cost structure with productivity initiatives, such initiatives cannot be expected to offset the significant increases in costs.

"The velocity and volatility of cost increases require us to renegotiate contracts that provide an extended price protection period," said Ian Edwards, global business director of DuPont Titanium Technologies. "At a time when the market for many of our purchased raw materials and services is extremely volatile, we cannot afford to delay our ability to pass on these increases."

In addition to this overall portfolio increase announcement, DuPont Titanium Technologies said that it continues to evaluate the cost elements of its product offering and package sizes and may alter pricing in line with the cost of doing business. This will include but is not limited to product grades, packaging and logistics. DTT representatives will provide customers with account-specific information.
