DuPont Performance Coatings Among Winners of German Environment Prize

A network of eight companies, including DuPont Performance Coatings, recently received the German 2004 Environment Prize in the "Environment Friendly Technologies" category for Thermoface, an innovative pre-treatment for high quality medium density fiber (MDF) board. The prize was awarded by BDI, the German Association of Industry.

The network created a new environment- and user-friendly method that makes it easier to pre-treat the MDF board and achieve a dust-free, flawlessly smooth surface. The treatment also reduces the degree of dust exposure from sanding and polishing. The name Thermoface was inspired by the term "babyface", because the network wanted users of this product to be reminded of the smooth skin of a baby's face.

Volker Rekowski, global research and development manager – DuPont Powder Coatings, said: "We are incredibly proud of this prize. The team has made it possible to coat any wooden surface without releasing any emissions."
