Dunmore to Install David-Standard's Tandem Coating Line to Raise its Coating Capabilities

Published on 2011-09-16. Author : SpecialChem

Global engineered film supplier Dunmore Corporation will be installing a Davis-Standard tandem coating line in early 2012, Davis-Standard announced. The new line will increase capacity and expand Dunmore's wide-width and dual coating capabilities.

Dunmore, headquartered in Bristol, Pa., has seen significant growth across their diverse markets including solar energy, energy management, imaging and security, aerospace, and surface finishing. The new line will feature two coating heads and dry bond laminating capabilities with an 80-inch (2,000mm) maximum web width and line speeds in excess of 1,000 feet per minute. Materials to be processed include PET, OPP, PVC, LDPE, polyvinyl fluoride (PVF), and nylon.

"Davis-Standard has done an excellent job of providing support throughout the process," said Tom Rimel, Dunmore's Executive Vice President of Operations and Development. "They've been very cooperative and a consistent partner from the initial project concept to today," commented Dunmore's Project Leader and director of operations and engineering Paul Sullivan. "We also appreciate being able to validate our design criteria at Davis-Standard's lab in Fulton, N.Y., which confirmed the effectiveness of our joint engineering and design efforts."

Davis-Standard supplies a range of coating platforms to address various customer requirements at all levels of sophistication. Dunmore's line was designed for seamless integration of subcomponents to allow for custom configurations, including various levels of winding and unwinding equipment. As with Dunmore, Davis-Standard's R&D team works with customers to collect theoretical and practical run data to develop highly efficient systems to achieve desired results.

"We have an excellent relationship with Dunmore's technical team. The design of this line has been a team effort," explained Don Teich, District Sales Manager for Davis-Standard. "The varied range of products Dunmore plans to manufacture presented some unique challenges in the design of the equipment. We have worked closely with their team to meet their needs."

The new line will be installed at Dunmore's Brewster, N.Y., facility. Dunmore also has manufacturing in Bristol, Pa., and Freiburg, Germany. The company is a large supplier of engineered coated and laminated films offering film conversion services such as coating, metallizing and laminating along with contract film manufacturing. Dunmore produces coated film, metallized film and laminating film substrates for the photovoltaic, graphic arts, packaging, aerospace, insulation, surfacing and fashion industries.
