Degussa Sells Persulphate Production Facility in Rheinfelden/Lörrach

Published on 2002-03-18. Author : SpecialChem

Degussa AG has sold the persulphate production facility that it operates at its Rheinfelden, Germany, location to Unionchimica Industriale S.p.A. of Bergamo, the holding company of the Italy-based Bombardieri Group. The transaction is still contingent on European Commission approval.

The Degussa persulphate plant in Rheinfelden produces ammonium persulphate and sodium persulphate. In 2000, the plant's 36 employees generated sales of almost EUR10 million. Unionchimica Industriale has acquired the plant to enter persulphate production, and will be taking on the present employees as well as continuing operation of the plant. It has accordingly founded RheinPerChemie GmbH as a new business unit for the production and sale of persulphates and related products.

In early 2000, the European Commission made approval of Degussa's purchase of Laporte contingent on certain conditions, one of which was divestment of Degussa's persulphate production plant in Rheinfelden.

Degussa is an entirely newly-formed, globally active corporation consistently aligned to high-yield specialty chemistry. With sales of EUR17 billion and a workforce of 63,000 employees, it is Germany's third-largest chemical company and world market leader in specialty chemicals. In fiscal 2000, the corporation generated an operating profit (EBITA) of EUR1.2 billion. Degussa's strength lies in highly-effective system solutions tailored to the requirements of customers in over 100 countries of the world. Its activities are led by the vision "Everybody benefits from a Degussa product - every day and everywhere"
