The Coatings & Colorants Business Unit of Degussa GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany, is discontinuing its (matt-)hardeners for epoxy and hybrid powder coatings. Details of the discontinuation will be discussed individually with customers.

According to Ralf Lepper, Global Marketing Manager for the entire product line of powder coating raw materials, the decision for discontinuation has been a rather difficult one. In the end we had to surrender to continuously decreasing operating margins over the years, despite all our efforts to counteract on the cost side. A last attempt to raise sales prices in Q4/2006 to reinstall a reasonable profitability was not met with success in the market place.

Of course Degussa will continue to be active in the field of powder coating crosslinkers with its PUR and hydroxyalkylamide crosslinkers. These products are used to crosslink light stable and weather resistant resin systems in powder coatings. The chemical reaction between resin and crosslinker results in highly weather resistant thermoset powder coatings capable of meeting the most varied requirements.

Degussa offers a broad range of raw materials for the Coatings and Adhesive Industry.

Degussa is the global market leader in specialty chemicals. Our business is creating essentials - innovative products and system solutions that make indispensable contributions to our customers' success. In fiscal 2005 around 44,000 employees worldwide generated sales of 11.8 billion euros and operating profits (EBIT) of 940 million euros.
