Dörken MKS Offers Corrosion-guarding Zinc Flake Coating to Indian Automotive Giant TATA

Published on 2014-06-27. Author : SpecialChem

Dörken MKS-Systeme has been developing eco-friendly micro layer corrosion protection systems in Herdecke, Germany, for over 30 years. Dörken MKS-Systeme produces and configures extremely effective surface protection systems for the automotive, wind energy, construction, electrical and aviation industries under the brand name DELTA-MKS.

Interacting with MOTORINDIA, Mr. Thirumuru Sashidhar Reddy, Country Head-India, spoke about the company’s eco-friendly zinc flake corrosion protection systems and its advantages. He said: "Dörken MKS-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG, established in 1980, launched its first product in 1982: Chrome (VI)-free zinc flake coatings. Since then restrictions have been imposed on the usage of hazardous substance in passenger vehicle segments as per Automotive End of Life (ELV)-standards."

The automotive industry started moving from Chrome (VI)-containing corrosion protection systems – such as plating – of high-strength steel parts like nuts, bolts, springs, clamps, etc. to zinc flake coating which our company manufactures. These chemicals do not contain any hazardous substances like chromium, lead, cadmium, etc. The other biggest advantage of zinc flake coatings is that they are "hydrogen embrittlement free" which is normally a risk factor involved in conventional electroplating.

Dörken MKS is present in 30 countries across the globe, with approvals from more than 300 OEMs & Tiers across automotive, wind, construction industries and some more. This ensured a strong market position for their high quality chemicals in mature markets like Europe, North America, China, South Korea and also in an upcoming markets like Brazil, India, Russia, and Thailand.

Dörken MKS corrosion protection zinc flake chemicals under the brand name of DELTA-MKS® are manufactured at its one and only production facility at Herdecke (Germany) and are delivered across the globe to around 150 licensed job coaters. These license agreements with job coaters according to the process specifications of Dörken MKS are to ensure stringent quality standards in the application of the company’s products as per the approved specifications of global OEMs & Tiers.

"In India, Dörken started business in 2008 with one job coater at Pune. Now Dörken has eight licensees in India to service the needs of growing automotive and wind power industry.", Mr. Reddy added. Apart from offering high quality zinc flake coatings to global OEMs, Dörken is also offering coatings to Indian automotive giant TATA. With the growing Indian automotive market predicted to become the 3rd largest passenger car manufacturing country by 2030 and also due to more focus on renewable energy like wind to tie down the power deficiency in the country, the market for Dörken’s DELTA-MKS® micro layer corrosion protection systems is going to grow by a multiple in the years to come", Mr. Reddy underlined.
