Croda to Showcase its Eco-friendly Coating Solutions at ChinaCoat 2011

Published on 2011-11-07. Author : SpecialChem

At Chinacoat 2011, Croda Coatings & Polymers will present its range of bio-based building blocks and speciality surfactants. The product range offers environmentally friendly solutions for resin manufacturers and formulators in the coatings and adhesives industry. A significant part of the range is based on renewable resources, which brings a sustainable and high performance alternative to petrochemical derived products.

Their range includes leading edge product brands such as:

  • Maxemul non-migratory surfactants for water borne coatings & adhesives
  • LoVOCoat polymeric surfactants for VOC reduction of solvent borne coatings
  • Zephrym non-VOC polymeric dispersants for coatings
  • Pripol fully renewable dimer fatty acid building blocks for all types of resins
  • Priplast bio-based polyester polyols for high performance polyurethane dispersions
  • Atlas G speciality alkoxylates for polyester, epoxy and radcure systems
  • Priamine amine functional dimer derivatives for epoxy curing and hot melt adhesives
  • Croda will be presenting a technical paper at this conference entitled: "Novel amine functional dimer technology for low VOC and flexible epoxy and polyurea protective coatings".

For many years Croda has offered a range of bio-based building blocks with a renewable nature for the use in high performance coatings such as polyurethane dispersions, epoxy toughened coatings and UV-curable coatings. These building blocks bring excellent hydrolytic stability, outdoor stability, flexibility and adhesion to a wide range of substrates including plastic, metal and wood. Croda has now developed a range of new amine-functional low viscosity dimer products.

For epoxy resins, the technology provides similar benefits to dimer fatty acid based polyamide curatives, such as flexibility and impact resistance. However, this new curative allows for high solids formulations with good water repellency, pigment wetting and excellent durability. For polyurea, the technology brings improved moisture and chemical resistance together with an excellent surface finish and impact resistance. Furthermore, the novel amine functional materials are fully bio-based (100% renewable carbon) and are completely non-volatile, thus bringing clear environmental and health benefits to the end-users.
