Corus Packaging Plus and Valspar Announce Strategic Joint Polymer Coatings Development Program

Published on 2005-09-12. Author : SpecialChem

Corus Packaging Plus, a leading packaging steel producer, and Valspar, a leading coatings manufacturer, have announced the formation of a joint polymer coatings development program. The program's main objective is to expand Corus' ProtactÒ polymer-coated steel business and provide the market with a range of high performance, customized coated metal systems.

Setting the standard

The agreement between the category leaders was born out of a shared vision of the future potential that polymer coatings for steel packaging bring to various markets.

Polymer-coated steel from Corus Packaging Plus is an established packaging material in the market place. Corus is committed to accelerate the usage of this technologically advanced material and thus to grow the market for existing and new applications. "Valspar and Corus Packaging Plus each bring something unique to this relationship. We bring unparalleled knowledge about the manufacturing of the material and its processing, and Valspar brings expertise in coatings for rigid metal packaging", said Malcolm McOmish, Managing Director of Corus Packaging Plus. "Utilizing this joint expertise allows us to set the standard for polymer-coated packaging steel." Adds Don Nolan, Senior Vice President of Valspar: "As the leading supplier of rigid packaging coatings we see great potential for polymer-coated steel and are committed to further develop the technical properties of these coated substrates."

Technologically Advanced Products

Corus Packaging Plus markets its polymer-coated steel for packaging applications mainly under the brand name Protact. Protact is used in a range of packaging applications like food cans, closures, aerosol (components), paint can rings and bottoms. Corus also produces Ferrolite, a well-established polymer-coated steel, used for aerosol components and other uses. As the coating is developed to meet specific packaging demands, polymer-coated steel delivers product protection, convenience and shelf appeal.
