Published on 2005-12-15. Author : SpecialChem

Columbian Chemicals Co. has appointed Brenntag, the global leader in the chemical distribution market, as a distributor for Bolivia, the Caribbean, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, effective January 1, 2006. Brenntag Latin America, Inc., will sell and distribute Columbian's high quality industrial and rubber carbon blacks in these countries.

This partnership strengthens Columbian's commitment to providing more value for its customers by gaining efficiencies through consolidated distribution channels and an unrivalled, state-of-the-art distribution network.

"We are always looking for ways to provide more value to our customers, and Brenntag Latin America, with their 1,035 employees and 49 locations, offers an opportunity for Columbian to extend world-class customer service to customers in South America," said Jas Sandhu, vice president of global marketing.

The opportunity furthers Brenntag's presence in the rubber, plastics, inks and coatings markets, as the company continues to maximize its leading regional market position and expertise as the world market leader with recorded sales of 4.6 billion euros in 2004. Through the efforts of over eight thousand employees at three hundred locations around the globe, Brenntag maintains its strong position in world markets with superior supply chain logistics, single sourcing, and value-added services.

Columbian Chemicals Co. is one of the world's leading producers of carbon black - an engineered material that improves the strength, durability and overall performance of a range of products including tires and other mechanical rubber goods, as well as inks, paints, plastics and coatings. The company is the only major global carbon black manufacturer to have earned the ISO 14001 certification, an internationally recognized standard for environmental management, at all of its manufacturing facilities.

Based in Marietta, Georgia, Columbian Chemicals Co. is a subsidiary of Phelps Dodge Corp., one of the world's leading producers of copper. Columbian Chemicals Co. owns and operates 12 carbon black manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Korea, Spain and the United States.
