Coventry, RI -- ICE 2006, the International Coatings Expo trade fair and conference for the global coatings industry, will be held in New Orleans from November 1 through 3. Clariant Pigments & Additives Division will be an exhibitor in the Morial Convention Center at Booth 702 and will feature its expanded colorant and additives range for a safer environment.

Colanyl® 500 is a comprehensive range of environmentally friendly pigment preparations which are free of binding agents and solvents in addition to high pigment content. The main areas of application are aqueous dispersion paints and synthetic resin-bound renderings. The preparations are also suitable for coloring aqueous wood stains and veneers, acrylic and polyester cast resins, as well as for latex coloration and waterproof inks. Their excellent flowability and pumpability, as well as their improved stability against sedimentation and drying out, create excellent conditions for the hassle-free use of the products in automated dosing and mixing equipment. This high quality Colanyl® 500 range will be offered with specifications meeting gravimetric color strength ±2% and volumetric color strength ±3%. It goes without saying that all products of the series fulfill the requirements of the German Low-Emission Paints guideline RAL-UZ 102 and the 2007- 2010 EU Decopaint Directive 2004/42/EC. The products are VOC-free and do not contain alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEO).

Clariant's 70 series pigments represent a full range of yellow, orange and red organic alternatives to heavy metal pigments for application in both liquid and powder coatings. They offer superior purity of shade, opacity and flow characteristics versus conventional organic pigments. The principal areas of application are decorative, industrial, and automotive paints.

Clariant has a line of non-halogenated flame retardants under the trade name Exolit®. These non-halogenated products are based on ammonium polyphosphate compounds, which are excellent alternatives to conventional flame retardants. The benefits of these flame retardants are low smoke density and no corrosive gas formation when exposed to fire. Due to its numerous modifications and synergistic combinations, Exolit® is suitable for many different application segments, such as steel coatings, sealants, adhesives, wood, textiles, thermosets, thermoplastics, polyurethane foams and wood plastic composites.

Environmental awareness has led to the increased use of powder coatings where micronized waxes based on polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) are often used. One such product introduction is TP Ceridust® 3921 F, a micronized PTFE wax mixture based on an innovative polyolefin. When formulated into such coatings, this additive improves scratch resistance, enhances slip resistance and imparts antiblocking characteristics.

As a late consequence of Clariant's spin-off from Sandoz in 1995, the Pigments & Additives Division is required to change the brand names of its products that contain the element "Sand" in their names. Also, some of the trade names will be cancelled. Naturally, all the products, their quality and performance, remain unchanged. Official launch of the new brand names is January 1, 2007. The rebranding process is scheduled to be completed by January 1, 2008.

One of these products is Sanduvor® 3051 pwd., which will be available under the trade name Hostavin® 3051 pwd.. It is a tribo additive, light stabilizer and processing stabilizer that has shown excellent effectiveness in many different coating applications. The proven light stabilizer dispersions Sanduvor® disp. XP will also be renamed to Hostavin® disp. XP. The dispersions provide effective light stabilization for water-based coatings while offering both ease of handling and incorporation. They also have a significantly longer shelf life than other competitive light stabilizer dispersions through the use of proprietary biocide and humectant blends.
