Bluestar Silicones Opens New Vinylated Chlorosilane Manufacturing Facility at its Roussillon Plant

Published on 2011-03-08. Author : SpecialChem

Bluestar Silicones inaugurates its new vinylated chlorosilane manufacturing facility in its Roussillon plant, as part of the investment on the site.

The project, internally referred to as "SILVIN 3" (SILicones VINylés), is part of a capacitybuilding exercise for the manufacture of vinylated chlorosilanes by moving into continuous production mode in the existing SILVIN unit, opened in 2001. Bluestar Silicones is also using this project to integrate a strategic raw material which, until now, was sourced in China or Germany. This new production capacity will allow it to accompany the growth of the downstream sites at Saint Fons in France and Xinghuo in China.

The unit was successfully started up in December.

This investment is important for Bluestar Silicones: vinylated chlorosilanes and their byproducts are used in the production of all the Company's vinylated silicone oils and resin synthesis for release coatings for paper and textiles.

Bluestar Silicones' around 6 m€ investment respects the requirements of improved Safety and Environment measures linked to its TRPP studies.

"This investment in Roussillon shows Bluestar Silicones' determination to continue its development in Europe in parallel with its projects in China by taking on the production of strategic intermediates", declared Jean-Louis Plagne, Industrial Project Director for Bluestar Silicones.
