BIT Introduction Enhances Dow Biocides Product Portfolio Leadership

Published on 2005-06-07. Author : SpecialChem

As the global industry leader, Dow Biocides is introducing a new molecule to its product portfolio: Benzisothiazolinone (BIT). BIT will allow the Company to further expand its product offering and provide customers with a variety of enhanced products and solutions, making Dow the one-stop-shop for all biocides needs across the world

"BIT is one of the most widely-used biocides for in-can preservation, and adding it to our portfolio closes a gap to greatly strengthen our offering," said Mark Henning, general manager, Dow Biocides. "Our customers asked and we delivered. It's just one of the ways we are demonstrating our global leadership in the industry, adding molecules and solutions that people need - both now and for the future. BIT is just the first visible step in our trek to invest in and grow our business in readiness for future developments in the biocides industry."

The BIT molecule fills customer application needs for a preservative with broad pH coverage, particularly for high pH systems, and non-formaldehyde based chemistry. The range of BIT products will be introduced globally by region beginning immediately in North America, and followed by Asia, Europe and Latin America.

"Adding BIT to our portfolio reflects a basic Dow principle - problem solving," said Mark Saurin, global marketing manager for paints and coatings, Dow Biocides. "The molecule complements our current formaldehyde and non-formaldehyde based offering for the paints and coatings industry, giving us an exceptional platform to creatively use our chemistry for the future development of tailored formulations and combinations," said Saurin. "Our initial focus is delivering against customer needs in industrial hygiene and in-can preservation; while our next challenge is to address the market need for a better answer to dry film preservation."

The new range of BIT products being added to the Dow Biocides portfolio include: CANGUARDTM BIT 10 Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 10-E Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 DPG-E Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 AS Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 AS-E Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 33 AS-E Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 DPG Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 LC-E Preservative, CANGUARD BIT 20 LV-E Preservative, BIOBANTM BIT 10 Antimicrobial, BIOBAN BIT 10-E Antimicrobial, BIOBAN BIT 20 DPG Antimicrobial, and BIOBAN BIT 20 DPG-E Antimicrobial.
