BioAmber Presented its Successful Business Models in Bio-chemicals for Coatings & more at ICDC

The ICDC (held from 26-27 November in India) is focused on Intermediates & Specialty Resins, and included an Industry Outlook on global chemical derivatives by Tecnon OrbiChem, and a look at the future of the Indian Chemical Industry by the Institute of Chemical Technology of India. Presenters included many leading players in the industry in India, including Tata Chemicals Ltd., Reliance Industries, KLJ Plasticizers, as well as leading global players, including Huntsman, Evonik and Celanese.

BioAmber was the only renewable chemicals presenter, with Mukund Rao, General Manager of BioAmber Asia, presenting on successful business models in Bio Chemicals, highlighting the large potential for BioAmber's renewable chemicals portfolio, starting with BioAmber's Bio Succinic Acid, a platform chemical, with application in a broad range of markets from polyurethanes, plasticizers, coatings & resins, to personal care, flavors & food ingredients.

The benefits of bio-based chemicals, as compared to petroleum chemicals were summarized as:

  1. More stable pricing of bio feedstocks
  2. Reduced carbon footprint
  3. With respect to BioAmber's Succinic Acid, the performance benefits/innovation potentia

The presentation also announced BioAmber's plans to increase production capacity for bio succinic acid, to 30,000 metric tons, with a plant located in Sarnia, Canada, which is scheduled for mechanical completion in Q4 2014.
