Dr. Bernhard Hofmann (54), until now member of the Board of Management of Degussa AG, will join BASF Aktiengesellschaft effective May 1, 2006. Subject to regulatory approval of BASF's acquisition of Degussa's construction chemicals business, Hofmann will assume responsibility for the new Construction Chemicals operating division.

From 2001 to 2003, Hofmann was head of the Construction Chemicals division at Degussa. Subsequently, he was head of Degussa's Fine & Industrial Chemicals division until he was appointed to the company's Board of Management at the beginning of 2006. “Bernhard Hofmann has outstanding knowledge of the construction chemicals market. Under his leadership, we will successfully develop and expand the business we have acquired from Degussa,” said Dr. Andreas Kreimeyer, BASF Board member responsible for the Performance Products segment to which the new Construction Chemicals division will belong.

BASF reached an agreement with Degussa to acquire the company's global construction chemicals business on March 1, 2006. The transaction is expected to close in mid-2006.
