Bayer Scientist Explains the Benefit of Polyurethane Resins for Coatings at Concrete Decor Show in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Bayer MaterialScience LLC scientist will address attendees at the Concrete Décor Show in Nashville, Tenn., March 15-18, 2011, and explain the benefits of high-performance polyurethane resins for coatings and sealants that enhance and protect the beauty of decorative concrete. Other Bayer MaterialScience LLC coatings and sealants experts will also be available at their booth (#826) to discuss these technologies with show attendees.

Steven Reinstadtler, market development manager - Construction for Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties (CAS), Bayer MaterialScience LLC, presented a paper authored by Bayer scientist Terry Wayt entitled "Polyurethanes for Concrete: Past, Present and Future," at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 16. During his presentation, Reinstadtler discussed Wayt's study of the various polyurethane technologies available for concrete applications - such as solvent-based primers and topcoats; thick-section, flexible mid-coats; hard-wear surface systems; polyaspartics; ultra-low volatile organic compound (VOC), two-component (2K) water-based topcoats and ultraviolet (UV)-curable coatings - and the benefits of each. Reinstadtler will also detail Wayt's thoughts on how to evaluate which coating is best for a particular application.

Then, at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 17, Reinstadtler will be one of three speakers in the "Style and Substance: Broadening the Horizons of Decorative and Polished Concrete" session. During this session, Reinstadtler will discuss recent work done with 2K waterborne polyurethane sealer technology and the use of this type of technology as a stainguard for decorative or diamond-polished concrete. Reinstadtler will also highlight the many advantages of 2K waterborne polyurethane sealer technology: no odor, ultra-low VOCs, good wetability of the surface, enhanced color pop, and resistance to many common chemicals such as foodstuffs, solvents, oil and other staining agents. This session will conclude with a Q&A in which the three presenters will serve as panelists.
