Pittsburgh PA: SSPC -- The Society for Protective Coatings has announced that Mr. Carl Angeloff of Bayer MaterialScience, LLC has assumed the role of President of the SSPC Board of Governors. Mr. Angeloff replaces Mr. Robert A. Kogler of the Federal Highway Administration, who was unable to complete his term as President due to other commitments and responsibilities within his agency. Mr. Angeloff has served on the SSPC Board for over 5 years. He was voted President-Elect in July 2004, and was originally due to take over as President on July 1, 2005.

SSPC Board of Governors President Carl Angeloff

Carl Angeloff is Manager of Market Development for the Maintenance and Monomers coatings business for Bayer MaterialScience, LLC. Mr. Angeloff began his career with Bayer in 1990 as a Technical Marketing Specialist. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with degrees in BSCE and MSCE. After college, Mr. Angeloff worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), where he was the District Bridge Engineer in western Pennsylvania. After leaving PennDOT, he worked for the American Institute of Steel Construction as northeast regional Engineer. Mr. Angeloff is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and the author of over 40 papers on polyurethane coatings, and steel and concrete structures. In addition to his role on the SSPC Board, Mr. Angeloff is active in many other professional associations, including the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania and the Polyurea Development Association. He is married and has two children.

"I am sorry that Bob Kogler won't be able to complete his term. But at the same time, I am both honored and privileged to serve as the next President at this exciting time in SSPC's history," says Mr. Angeloff. "These are challenging times for American businesses and as we move forward we want to continue to create exciting new opportunities for our members as we have done with the PACE show." PACE (Paint and Coatings Expo) 2005, to be held January 23-26, 2005 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be the first combined technical conference and trade show offered by SSPC in conjunction with the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America.

Mr. Angeloff's sentiments are shared by SSPC Executive Director Bill Shoup. "I am very sorry that Bob could not complete his term as President," says Mr. Shoup. "He was really focused on the big issues facing SSPC and the coatings industry in general. However, I do look forward to working with Carl throughout his term as President, especially during PACE 2005."

SSPC management is overseen by a Board of Governors composed of twelve (12) elected members, plus a non-voting Secretary and Treasurer, and ex-officio members. The Board supervises, controls, and directs the affairs of SSPC, determines and interprets its policies within the limits of the Bylaws, actively prosecutes its purposes, and has discretion in the disbursement of its funds. The Board has final authority over all boards and committees, and has the authority to direct specific items to be sent to the general membership for consideration and vote.
