Bayer MaterialScience Scientist Highlighted Polyurethane Coatings at World of Concrete Conference

Las Vegas -- A Bayer MaterialScience LLC scientist taught a course at the World of Concrete conference that addresses the basic chemistry and sustainability factors behind polyurethane coatings and sealants, as well as appropriate end-use applications.

Steven Reinstadtler, Market Development Manager - Construction for Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties (CAS), Bayer MaterialScience LLC, and Chris Sullivan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, ChemSystems Inc., co-presented the training course, "Understanding High-Performance Coatings for Decorative Concrete," at the conference, held recently in Las Vegas. This course was part of the Decorative Concrete track. Course attendees earned 3.0 continuing professional education hours through American Institute of Architects (AIA/CES).

Reinstadtler began by highlighting the key differentiators and chemistries of leading high-performance coating technologies - polyaspartic, waterborne, natural oil-based and UV-curable coatings. Next Reinstadtler laid out the sustainability drivers for concrete coatings, covering such hot topics as volatile organic compound (VOC) regulation compliance, recycled content and energy efficiency contributions.

Sullivan then focused on coating selection, surface preparation, proper application techniques and equipment, and real-world uses and case histories. According to Reinstadtler, "Attendees left with a greater understanding of the trend for high-performance decorative coatings, including what they are, how they work and where and when to use them."
