BASF to increase prices for BDO and derivatives in North America

Published on 2005-08-30. Author : SpecialChem

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Effective September 1, 2005, or as contracts allow, BASF will increase its list and off-list prices in the United States, Canada and Mexico by $0.10 (USD) per pound for 1,4-Butanediol (BDO), Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL), N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP-standard and value grades), Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Polytetrahydrofuran (Poly THFâ).

These increases are being instituted to address continued increases in raw material and energy costs.

With seven plants on three continents, BASF is the leading global producer of butanediol and its derivatives. The company's annual global production capacity for BDO is 575,000 metric tons. BDO and its derivatives are used for production of engineering plastics, polyurethanes, solvents, electronic chemicals and elastic fibers (Poly THF).
