BASF to feature Firemist® Colormotion pigments at HBA Global Expo

FLORHAM PARK, NJ -- BASF will showcase its Firemist Colormotion pigments at the HBA Global Expo and Educational Conference, Sept. 18-20, 2007, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. These goniochromatic materials - which represent the latest advance in borosilicate pigment technology - appear to be one color, but with changes in the viewing angle, suddenly move across the color spectrum. Firemist Colormotion pigments can be used for coating and plastic formulations, including injection molded, blow molded and co-extruded plastics.

"Firemist Colormotion Ruby and Firemist Colormotion Blue Topaz pigments bring personal care products and high-end cosmetic packaging to life with brilliant color and glittering effects," said Thierry Chevrier, Director, Performance Chemicals-Pigments and Additives, for BASF in North America. "These multi-dimensional effect materials also make distinctive color travel possible for electronics, sporting goods, household appliances and other packaging applications."

In addition to their exceptionally high visual impact, Firemist Colormotion pigments are specially formulated to achieve better effects in chroma, color purity, brightness, transparency and reflectivity than traditional pearlescent pigments. This gives designers and formulators a spectrum of advanced optical effects to help make products and packaging more appealing.

The platelet of borosilicate is thin enough to allow its use in low film build liquids coating, while the particle size is large enough to create a sparkle effect in high film build applications. Firemist Colormotion's transparent particles provide clean colors in clear polymers and bold color shifts in colored or darkened polymers. HBA Global Expo and Educational Conference attendees can learn more about Firemist Colormotion pigments at BASF Booth 227.
