BASF: The Windows of the Constantine Palace in New Splendor

Published on 2004-02-12. Author : SpecialChem

St. Petersburg, Russia. A short while ago, it was still a ruin - now the Constantine Palace has been restored to its former glory. Just in time for the 300-year anniversary of the city of St. Petersburg, the building located in the suburb of Strelna was completely renovated in a record time of one-and-a-half years. Now guests from all over the world can admire the magnificence of this baroque building. BASF Coatings AG made an important contribution.

About 1,400 newly installed double window frames are coated with Glasurit®, a BASF Coatings brand. Bush, Blair, and Berlusconi are among the world dignitaries who have already admired the renovated baroque building. The Russians invested about 300 million euros in the overall renovation of the palace, which was finished in 1755 and damaged once in World War II and again due to fire in 1986. Today, the castle on the Gulf of Finland acts as a grandiose convention center and as the residence of President Vladimir Putin.

The Glassohyd products of Glasurit not only beautify, but also protect the 1,400 pinewood window frames. About 500 liters of Glassohyd Natura Primer - a water-thinnable, impregnating lasur - and about 1,500 liters of Glassohyd FensterColor Decklasur (a covering, water-thinnable high-build lasur) in nut tree contribute to the splendor of Constantine Palace. The innovative Glassohyd system is eco-efficient and gives the wooden windows optimum UV protection and weather resistance, as well as brilliant, natural surfaces.
