White Stone, S.C. -- BASF's White Stone, S.C., site has been awarded the 2006 Performance Improvement Excellence Award from the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) for its accomplishments in maintaining strong environmental, health, safety and security efforts. BASF was presented with the award at SOCMA's Annual Dinner in December.

In addition to being recognized for its strong safety performance and environmental protection efforts, BASF's White Stone site was recognized for the positive impact it has on the White Stone community. BASF provides scholarships to graduating seniors to study engineering or science and provides a mentoring program for area youth. Employees also participate in local Earth Day activities and assist with local science contests.

"We are extremely honored to receive this award from SOCMA," said Clarence Batts, Manager of BASF's White Stone site. "We are also especially proud of the strong focus on health, safety and security our employees display each and every day while pursing manufacturing excellence."

"BASF's environmental, health, safety and security efforts show they are committed to performance excellence and to improving the quality of life in their community. We commend BASF's White Stone site. The Excellence award is our top honor and it really demonstrates the emphasis the company places on these issues," said SOCMA President Joe Acker.

SOCMA members manufacture thousands of products annually. From pharmaceuticals to cosmetics, soaps to plastics, and all kinds of industrial and construction products, SOCMA members produce the building blocks for materials that save lives, ensure our food supply is safe and abundant, and enable the manufacture of literally thousands of other products.
