BASF Coatings Lead Supplier for New Nissan Plant in China

Published on 2004-04-14. Author : SpecialChem

Münster/Huadu. Based on an extensive partnership, BASF Coatings and Nissan have now been able to expand their cooperation to the Chinese market as well. For the new plant in Huadu in the Guangdong province, which Nissan has been operating in a joint venture together with the Chinese Dongfeng Motor Corporation starting this year, BASF Shanghai Coatings (BSC) was chosen as the lead supplier for automotive OEM coatings. BSC provides Nissan with primers, basecoats, and clearcoats for car bodies and bumpers.

The project is carried out in cooperation with BASF NOF Coatings (BNC) in Tokyo, which became the lead supplier for Nissan's Japanese production locations several years ago. At present, the coatings for the Chinese Nissan plant come from BNC in Japan since they already have the necessary approvals from Nissan. Due to the close cooperation of the Japanese and Chinese locations of BASF Coatings, a regular transfer of knowledge and personnel takes place. In the future, the coatings should thus be supplied directly from the production location in Shanghai.

"The awarding of the commission to BSC is a further milestone in the successful partnership between Nissan and BASF Coatings," emphasizes Syuichi Manabe, Account Manager for Renault-Nissan in Japan at BASF NOF Coatings. "Due to our strong global network, we are able to offer Nissan in China the excellent product quality and extensive services that have already been making us a trustworthy partner for Nissan in Japan."
