BASF Coatings is Supplier for Magyar Suzuki Co. in Hungary

Muenster/Esztergom -- BASF Coatings will supply about 45 percent of the base and clear paints for application to chassis and bumpers at Magyar Suzuki Co., the Hungarian representative of the Japanese auto manufacturer. Suzuki has expanded its plant with a new paint line scheduled to start operating in January 2005. This will also mark the first time that Suzuki will be using environmentally friendly water-based technology from BASF Coatings. Suzuki's decision to use products from BASF Coatings came after a tour of the "Robot Application Center" (RACE) at the Muenster-Hiltrup plant. During their visit in July, members of the Japanese delegation were above all convinced by the potential to maintain precise control over the ongoing process.

In Esztergom, just an hour's drive from Budapest, Suzuki will be producing the WagonR and Ignis models. The application of paints from Muenster at this Hungarian facility of a Japanese auto manufacturer is another example of the increasing importance of international partnership to Dr. Siegfried Riediger, Manager for European Key Accounts of Japanese Automobile Manufacturers. "The cooperation with Magyar Suzuki boosts BASF Coatings into a strategically important, expandable position in the eastern European market", he explains. This has only been possible because all parties involved contributed their individual strengths to the ultimate success of the process.
